Dental implants can be a natural-looking, long-lasting, comfortable and safe option for replacement tooth treatment, an alternative to bridgework and dentures. With today's technology, replacing a lost tooth with an implant is an IDEAL option. Denture wearers can benefit from implant placement as well, having an anchor to which the dentures can be secured. The 2002 McGill consensus report recommends two implants in the lower jaw as a vital component in complete lower denture treatment because it significantly improves function and helps to limit bone loss in the lower jaw over time.

When we evaluate you for dental implant replacement teeth, we will determine the amount of bone volume in the area for the implant teeth. A dental implant is just a root replacement to replace the root of a missing tooth. This new root or implant is secured to the jaw much like a natural tooth. As long as there is enough bone and the implant is allowed to heal undisturbed by infection or biting pressure, bone healing will occur in two to four months, and a new tooth crown can then be placed on top of the implant or dentures can be secured to it.

If it is determined that there is not enough bone volume in the area, either in width or height, we can discuss the various bone augmentation techniques that we have available today to "regrow" your own bone in order to secure new implant teeth. These techniques are typically office procedures and have a high degree of predictability.
